Artist Spotlight: Tommy FlyGuy

Even though Valentine’s Day is truly an afterthought now that we’ve arrived at mid-March, i’ve unearthed an extremely dope mixtape titled “Valentine’s Day Massacre” and an accompanying video for DMV-native Tommy “FlyGuy” Foster. As with any unfamiliar artist, when I was first introduced to his music, I made it a point to reserve all preconceived notions until after I finished the entire tape. I’m so glad I did, because this one was a collection of tracks that will stay in rotation for at LEAST a few weeks.

He attacks a few current radio hits better than some of the original artists in my humble opinion, putting the hammer down on notables “I Wanna Rock” and “Lemonade” as well as other current rap favorites.  In the video “I’m On My Way”, the FlyGuy is just as callous and calculating as Talib Kweli was on the original, causing me to replay the vid a few times in order to soak up the punch-lines.  Check the vid and get the download for the mixtape below:
