Google is making the move: they’ve allowed Verizon to  unveil the Motorola Droid. This phone is the first to utilize  the Android 2.0 OS while also boasting a 1 GB processor.  Verizon plans to market the Droid in direct competition of  Apple’s iPhone 3gS, and from the looks of the spec sheet,  they may just have a winner on their hands.

Android 2.0, also known by its code name Eclair, will be  more than just an over-the-air update to existing Android  OS users.  This fully functioning operating system rework is  designed to harness the power of much more powerful devices as well as help Google to expand its already growing marketshare.  One of the flagship improvements included in Eclair is coming in the form of Google Navs, a fully integrated and instantaneous real-time Google Maps replacement.  Google Navs is an exciting development, aimed at taking in-car navigation systems head on.

The biggest shots fired so far come from Verizon’s marketing department. Their premiere commercial pokes fun at Apple’s affection for upbeat music, minimalist backgrounds, and typography explaining what “iDoes”. Instead of yacking anymore, just check out the 30 second spot for yourself..
