Track Of The Week: Aug. 22nd-28th
No mixtape this week, just the much discussed Kanye West track entitled “Monster“. Typically feature heavy tracks irritate me, but none of the guests laid lame verses so I’m not adverse to posting it. Since it dropped, there’s been plenty of discussion about Kanye’s place in the top rappers, Nicki Minaj’s level of irritation and Ross’s hot or cold content/delivery.
My thoughts? Kanye is not only one of my favorite rappers, but has consistently grown as an artist since his beginnings. I have no problem placing him in my top 10, even WITH the ghost writers he has utilized during different parts of his career. Nicki Minaj’s music and I have a love hate relationship. I love her wordplay and content, but hate her delivery… I just can’t get past the irritation her “voices” give me, just as with Eminem. Lastly, i’m not a fan of Ross on any tracks that aren’t laid back / classy. He missed me with B.M.F. and MC Hammer, but Super High and anything JUSTUS L.E.A.G.U.E. produced will stay in rotation even years from now.
